How long does hop aroma last?

Hi guys-

I recently brewed an American Rye Pale Ale with all Rakau hops. I went crazy on the dry hops and did 4oz for 11 days. After 3 weeks of bottle conditioning the beer was perfect---when you cracked one it smelled like a hoppy tropical flower fruit bomb had exploded right in front of you.

2 weeks later, and not very much aroma left, although it's still a lovely beer. Is this loss of aroma over time to be expected? Does aroma from flameout or other late additions last longer?

anyone seen articles or books that talk about the degradation of hop aroma and volitization of the responsible compounds? I know they are out there, just can't remember where...
