How long does hop aroma last?

Hi guys-

I recently brewed an American Rye Pale Ale with all Rakau hops. I went crazy on the dry hops and did 4oz for 11 days. After 3 weeks of bottle conditioning the beer was perfect---when you cracked one it smelled like a hoppy tropical flower fruit bomb had exploded right in front of you.

2 weeks later, and not very much aroma left, although it's still a lovely beer. Is this loss of aroma over time to be expected? Does aroma from flameout or other late additions last longer?

I've had similar results. 4 weeks is when the aroma starts to fade noticeably in my experience.

Thanks, I guess that this accounts for variation in hop aroma for the same make/model of beer (Sculpin IPA).

anyone seen articles or books that talk about the degradation of hop aroma and volitization of the responsible compounds? I know they are out there, just can't remember where...
