I am getting back into brewing after a long hiatus. I have done some research and it looks like Star-San is the best sanitizer. My question is how many batches does a 16 oz bottle last for you? If its not very many I will buy in bulk. If it is then I'll go for the smaller bottle.

What say you?

1 oz of Starsan concentrate in 5 gallons of filtered, distilled, or RO water can last for months. Just keep it clean by only submersing clean equipment in it, and keep a lid on it. I always have a small tote plus a bucket with Starsan around. If the pH goes above 3, you can add some phosphoric acid to it to bring it back to 2.3.

Even when it gets a bit cloudy, it still works as long as it's within its pH range.

I would not consider buying a smaller container than 16 oz or 32 oz.

I make 2.5 gallons at a time (which is probably overkill, but it works nicely with the solution strength and markings on the bottle). Ill use that for the initial brew day, all testing I do, and bottling/kegging. Occasionally Ill get lazy and use it for another initial brew day, but generally make a new batch for each beer. So for me a 16 ounce bottle lasts around 32-35 batches which has been around 2 years (I don't know the shelf life, but have never had an infection so I'm happy).

Star San solution can be stored just keep it in a sealed container between uses.

It goes a long way.

You can use it to clean equipment, and then keep it stored for later use as long as you seal the container it's stored in. Buckets work great for this, or even a carboy. It remains effective as long at the PH is 3 or lower.

I use a growler or 2 and fill each one then use a dropper with 3 ml star San for each growler

I've got an 8 oz container that's 2 years old. i reuse the starsan, until it gets too cloudy for me. I have 5 oz left in that bottle. And I've shared some with friends. It lasts.
