how long can yeast stay in carboy after racking?

Hi All,
I racked my beer yesterday and I want to wash the yeast. I left about an inch of beer on top of the yeast and then put some sterilized foil over the top. I wanted to wait until today to wash it because I want to go buy some good jars.

Is there any problem with letting the yeast sit there like that?

Keeping the yeast was kind of a after thought, so that's the reason for the poor planning.

Sounds like you did everything right, you should be fine. just remember to sanitize the lip of the carboy before you pour it out.
