I bought specialty grains that came whole/non-milled. That's how I asked for them, but now I'm trying to crush/crack them and I'm worn out and not getting very good results. I'm using a large ziplock bag and a rolling pin.

Is there a better way?

That's how I do it. Or somtimes the bottom of a pint glass in a Pyrex bowl. Just to get them cracked.

thanks. lesson learned...get them milled at the LHBS or order them pre-milled. I'm only doing about 1lb, more than that and it would have really sucked.

i would get them taken care of at the lhbs but they dont offer that service for some reason. i've found that a rubber mallet works quite well as long as the grains are double bagged.

Has anyone ever tried running over it with your car?

i would imagine the rubber would give too much, you would have too much of a chance to break the bag its in, and if it does break, you risk getting all sorts of garbage in your grain.

to answer your question, i havent nor would i.
