I have a keggle and save the grains for some chickens, but it seems like the most time consuming task during brew day. I've used a shop vac and had a serious mold problem in the vac... I now just take a large cup and spoon it out. Tipping it over would work, but it's a keggle and I don't want to foul up my false bottom that's held on by a section of high heat vinyl tubing.
Usually I get it empty before the boil starts, but I'd love a quicker step.
Thanks Everyone!

I just use a spoon to scoop out the grain into a plastic garbage bag that is lining a bucket. then rinse out the tun and dump the remaining grain into the toilet. then wipe dry.

Is there really a risk of damaging your false bottom by flipping upside down slowly? I take my mash tun out to the chickens and flip it over into a trough. I have a cooler and think that there is probably more risk of scratching the mash tun than hurting the false bottom. I use silicone tubing, not vinyl, though.

I don't have a false bottom, I use the SS braid to filter my wort. Easier clean up me thinks.

BIABag. I use it in my mash tun without the false bottom but I think I might get one and still use the BIABag.

Scoop it out into an empty bucket with my 1 qt. measuring cup until it's light enough to carry out to the compost pile.

I used to dump it in my back yard hoping the raccoons and squirrels would eat it. They didn't and I ended up with a stinky pile of grains. I just throw it in a trash bag now.

I carry the cooler up to the wood line and dump it for the deer. I like watching them eat it.

I have a long handled scoop/spoon bought while in China. If I'm doing a 10 gallon batch with 20ish pounds of grain I used that to scoop it out into a bucket(s) for ease of carrying. If only a 5 gallon batch I just carry the mash tun out to dump directly in the compost. I have a false bottom, but no issues created due to that.

The chickens then assault the grains in the compost heap.

I use the same scoop i use for chicken feed to fill a bucket for the birds, then dump the wetter grains into a 5 gallon bucket lined with a garbage bag for disposal.
