How do you culture lactose bugs?

I recently purchased a vial of white labs lactose bugs. And would like to culture and laer proprogate them for future batches. Would a dried malt extract agar media be able to grow the bugs into a usable culture. Also how would I proprogate enough from the culture to use in a batch. Last but not least how many bugs and how would I measure the amount growing?
