Gents,

Ok, I've been brewing about a year now but I have never done a yeast starter. I bought a starter kit and a stir plate and want to give it a try. I want to brew two beers next week, probably one Thursday and one Friday.

My questions are:

When should I begin the first starter?
Will I have time to get the first going and do a second for the next brew?

School me please!

Thanks,
Jay

Make the first starter on Monday, throw it in the fridge on Tues. Make the second one on Tues, throw it in the fridge on Wed. Easy peasy. You just need two flasks.

Decant and pitch each one when you're ready. They'll be good to go.

Or, if you only have one flask. Make the first starter, decant and pitch as normal, then make the second starter immediately after. It should be ready to pitch by Friday, you just won't be able to put it in the fridge...you'll have to pitch the whole thing. It's not a big deal. A lot of people actually prefer to pitch that way.

I just have one flask. Any options? Decant the first starter into a jar?

Thanks for the fast reply,

Jay

I sometimes use a one gallon pickle jar. Works great on a stir plate. It was about four bucks and I got free pickles with it too!
