This one goes out to all my homies in the upper Midwest this week.
A buddy of mine took a job in Minnesota. During his first winter there, he sent me a picture of his thermostat showing a 100-degree difference between the indoor and outdoor temperatures with the caption "I don't think we're in Kansas (or Mississippi) anymore, Toto."

At least our sneks and spiders don't kill people.

Well, I've seen people react poorly to Minnesota spider bites, but it didn't kill them. I guess there's a chance that ones system doesn't tolerate spider venom well it might kill them, but it shouldn't.

Orfirst winter I lived in Minnesota, it got down to like 20 below with a 20 mile an hour wind & I learned the phrase "too cold to snow" & learned you gotta have lan oil heater or your winter beater ain't gonna start.
Same as Maine. I spent three years in the Navy based in Coastal Maine. PCS’d in late September. Our house didn’t have a garage or fenced-in yard for our German Shepherd. But we did have oil heat and a fireplace, and I had a shop install a block heater for our one car.

Somewhere around mid-January with OAT -20F, even the dog, who loved cold weather and snow, was learning how to hold his bladder. With no fence, we had to walk him whenever nature called. That required me to suit-up in my best L.L. Bean’s winter gear. Day or late at night.

The block heater meant the engine would always crank, and car heat would be available with only a few minutes’ drive time. Roads were always clear by the time to head to work, since every fisherman or construction worker with a pickup truck had a plow and a county contract to clear a certain stretch of hghiway.

Winters lasted a long time, but the summers were well worth the wait… as long as you didn’t have the duty that day. 😉

I think it was first up in a google image search for "drunken sailors"

speaking of...

got a bug up my... decided to see if I can find places I've visited overseas.

easy enough to find the Great Pyramids, but I wanted to find the Royal Marines recruiting office in Inverness that wouldn't let bloody Yanks join. (the result of a pub crawl)

well, there's only 1 recruiting station in Inverness, so I guess I found it. if it ain't moved in 32 years.

then I notice a store across the street. Scottish-themed store called "Thistle Do Nicely"

I got a giggle out of it

I've all but forgotten about AT. Great site, reviews, and forum. I have a ton of posts there for sure. I suppose after my kiddo was born I built a PC to rule them all, and since it hasn't broken and I'm still using it I haven't cared to keep up with the tech for a long while now.
