Bought an extract kit from Midwest, Hop Head DB IPA. I entered in Beersmith and with 2 of the grains, Victory and Aromatic Beersmith says you Must Mash. Midwest says just to steep them. I have done some research and I haven't seen anyone doing Partial Mash.

Any help would be much appreciated.

You can steep them no problem. As an fyi, if you steep in just hot water (150-155) you will pull some color & flavor from the grain but no fermentables (sugar.) But that's ok, your kit provides all the fermentables from the extract. The steeping grains just add a little complexity to the all extract brew.

Beersmith is telling you if you want to convert the starch in those grains to sugar you must mash. Just follow the kit instructions and it will turn out fine.

(BTW, "How to Brew" by J. Palmer makes a great xmas gift!)

+1, except aromatic can convert itself so you will get some sugars out of the steep

Thank you all! Just got done brewing, all went well. The pot that I bought had a slow leak out of the rivets that attach the handle. This is the first time I have used it, it's also my 2nd one as the first one did the same thing. Any ideas for a 9-10 gallon pot for a reasonable price, $100-$150? I'll be returning this one.
