I know that the OP was a fair few months ago, and I know this doesnt really address the issue of US homebrew shops being overpriced, but I'd recommend checking out Brouwland they are based in Belgium & have a great range of products. I suspect getting shipped to Germany will be reasonable too.

Brouwland is ok, however, there are others as well in Europe.

Thats true! I only recommended Brouwland cos the OP states he's trying to order from the US due to lack of range of stock in the ones he's tried. Brouwland has a really good range.

Can you recommend any others?

HuM (Hops and More) for grain. http://www.hobbybrauerversand.de/ if they dont have it, they will get it from Brouwland or Candirect. I used Nikobrew for Hops and Midwest brew, amazon, and ebay for equipment. Always be on the look out for companies like Midwest that dont offer flat rate to run flat rate specials.

"We deserve what every other American is entitled to."...Free/flat rate shipping...

It's a crime that they don't offer free shipping for military APO/FPO boxes.

Sure, it's a bit more expensive for the company, but jesus, we're counting pennies here. Us military types can't make up more than a percent or two of all of their clientele, can we?

Plus, we usually only have to have things shipped to our overseas APO/FPO boxes for a few years of our lives--we generally don't do more than one overseas tour in row. The vast majority of us overseas military dudes find themselves back in the good old USA after an overseas assignment.

Dan over at Amihopfen has been super helpful. Not only does he have great prices, he's assisting me with loads of other things that have been difficult to find with the language barrier in Germany. Thanks to Dan, I'll have a nitro faucet flowing in the near future. :rockin:

Yea, I had Midwest send things to an APO before, and now I tried to place an order and they no longer ship to us. The only difference I know is having to fill out a customs form, other than that the rates are US.

The below statement can from the Morebeer.com website:

APO and FPO Military Shipments
We have shipped to APO and FPO military addresses since 1995! We have a lot of friends and supporters in the military.
•All APO/FPO orders are shipped via USPS.
•APO/FPO orders do not qualify for free shipping.
•We cannot send drop ship or freighted items to APO/FPO addresses.
•Deliveries to APO/FPO zip codes that start with any number other than 9 may take up to 21 days for delivery.

International Shipments
We do ship internationally, and the shipping method can be selected by our customer at the time of checkout.
•In Stock orders ship in 2-4 business days. Shipping types offered will depend on the items ordered and the destination country of the shipment.
•International shipments are shipped at your own risk. We will not be able to replace items that are damaged in shipment.
•We will fill out the paper work for any customs before it ships, however, the receiver is responsible for any duties and taxes.
•USPS is generally the least expensive shipping option, however this would depend on size and weight of the package.
•Please note that if you choose FedEx they will charge a brokerage fee which is not reflected in our shipping quote.
•USPS tracking information will be far less detailed than FedEx.
•Please check with your country's customs laws prior to finalizing an order. It is possible ingredients, yeast, and/or any other items may not be allowed to be imported.
•Drop ship products (those products sent directly from the manufacturer to you) cannot be shipped internationally. These products are designated as being drop shipped in their product detail. Drop Shipments can be shipped to a Freight Forwarder in the USA. The freight forwarding company would then be responsible for sending the item to your international location. We are not responsible for any damage incurred in shipment.
•We currently do not ship freight items, BrewSculptures or MoreBeer! Heated and Cooled conicals internationally. However, we are able to ship them to a freight forwarding company of your choice. The freight forwarding company would then be responsible for freighting the item to your international location. We are not responsible for any damage incurred in shipment.
•Please be aware that all of our electrical equipment is wired for 110 v with US standard plugs unless otherwise noted.
•If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our customer service department at 1-800-600-0033 or [email protected]

In short our free shipping program applies to most items on orders over $59 to the Lower 48 United States. We do exclude certain items such as Grain Sacks, some heavier glass items, most drop ship items, and most freighted items.

So I just don't see what the issue is expect that you don't want to pay all the extra frees that are applied.
