I like my equipment so far and have a hot liquor tank but the issue is my sight glass is set up so high on the side that I am at 3 gallons before the water volume is high enough to register. I have a Sanke keg that I can convert over to a HLT but I use one for my boil kettle and it is even worse. I don't think you can mount a glass low enough due to the way the kegs are made. Has anyone drilled the bottom and welded a 90 degree elbow with a pipe coming out with another 90 on the end of that and the sight glass attached to that? Better yet, does anyone have any pics of a converted keg with a sight glass that is set low enough to register at 1 gallon or even lower?

My converted keg doesn't "show" until 2.5 gallons, with the first marking at 3 gallons. It's because the keg is pretty wide, and it takes quite a bit of water to get it to show.

One thing I did with an old HLT (it was a cooler) is rig a different sightglass so that it started lower. But again, it wasn't as wide as a keg.

There is a metal fabrication shop about a mile from my house. I wonder if my idea would work? drill the bottom and weld a 90 elbow to the bottom and base the glass off of that? The main drawback I can think of is setting flat. HMMMMM I gotta set down with a pencil and draw this out. I bet I can make it work. Especially since the owner of the metal shop gets a kick out of my projects anyway.
