I know this is the opposite of what people are usually looking for, but I need a high calorie, 12% to 15% abv recipe. I am going on a road trip and we are trying to do it on the cheap. I figured I can make a 500 calorie per bottle beer easily but I am just wondering if there is anything out there already. I need some liquid bread basically. Doesn't need to be particularly tasty, just rich in carbs.

If you want to do it on the cheap and get unhealthy carbs just drink soda or put sugar in water. The other option is eat bread....

well I think that this is as much of a tribute to beer as any. After all, beer had its start because it is cleaner to drink than sketchy water and lasts much longer not refrigerated than bread would. Just because it tastes nice doesn't mean it can't also serve some practical purpose too.

Doppelbock. The monks who first brewed didn't eat for the 40 days or Lent, and only drank beer for that time. (And maybe water later on.)

Carrying a good loaf of whole grain, nutty, seedy bread is much more effective if calories is your only goal. Two slices is going to be equal to a high alcohol beer, but be about a tenth of the weight.

But if you do want some alcohol, then how about a poorly fermented barleywine? But will you be able to stand drinking a super sweet beer?
