Hi guys and gals
I brewed a Falconers flight IPA here is the recipe. 5 gallon batch
Grains
8oz Carafoam
8oz Caravienne
8oz Special roast

Fermented
8 pounds of pale liquid malt extract

Hops
Falconers flight 1oz 60
Falconers flight 1 oz 15 . I added 1tsp of Irish moss too
Falconers flight 1oz 5

Recipe has a OG of 1.059. But I had 1.070
FG 1.016. ABV 5.6% IBUS 72

Is missing my OG By so much a big problem. And what will the IPA Come out like
I have included a picture of hydrometer reading too.

did you end up with 5 gallon after the boil?
if you boiled off a bit too much, you'd end up around 1.07 ;)

When I did extract I rarely hit my target OG and saw numbers like you are seeing. Seemed they were even more off target when I used top off water as a good mix is difficult after the boil. I don't see your numbers as a concern and think it is rather typical.

If you ever try all grain brewing sometime during your brewing career, gravity numbers seem much more achievable and predictable as compared to extract.

Are you dry hopping? I would just up the dry hops to balance out the extra alcohol. I little extra alcohol never hurt anybody...until you fall or throw up from it.

This is my next to last batch of extract before i move to all grain, I have a pliny the elder clone extract then onto all grain, i have just bought a Brewers edge mash and boil for my all grain, just waiting for it to arrive

Hmm that is strange but I've never used Falconers flight. I would dry hop regardless even if you have to buy some yourself. With only 3oz of hops in a 1.070 OG beer I think your going to be disappointed in the aroma and flavor (personnel taste). I would add AT LEAST another 3oz of dry hops to this recipe. Again this would be just my personal taste.

The kit has no dry hops which i thought was quite unusual for a IPA.

You could always grab an extra ounce of Falconer's Flight hops and a muslin bag from your supply store. Dry hopping your beer would give it a beautiful citrus/fruity nose (aroma) as I'm sure you know.

I would stick with FF since it is a proprietary blend already. Plus you really get to appreciate that specific hop when you do single hop beers.

I am all into floral IPA so think i will buy some hops and dry hop, would you just go wth falconers flight or something like amarillo

Your entire hop bill so far is Falconer's Flight so that would keep your hop bill simple. However I am a huge fan of Amarillo and for sure feel you won't go wrong. My favorite beer in this world is a hoppy wheat with lots of Amarillo as the only hop. Winner for sure...either way you'll have a super nice beer.

There is a lot to be said about your post by saying to make one change at a time allows you to fully understand the impact of that single change. Or do the hop as a single hop to appreciate that profile before you modify it. Shows maturity in your brewing logic.

One other thing guys and thankyou all so much
The yeast i used was Danstar west coast, I rehydrated it as per instuctions 85-92 for 15 minutes my exact temp was 87.7, Will i need to pitch another packet of yeast I have some 05 in the fridge if needed

Also ordered 2 oz of falconers flight for dry hopping, and i will see how it tastes.

Thanks Morrey. I have been brewing nothing but IPAs and Pales this year. I did a single hop IPA with Belma which was a huge let down. Really shows you what each hop brings to the table

Even though Belma was a letdown, using it as a single hop allowed you to make the determination this hop was not your cup of tea at least by itself. SMaSH beers really do allow us to find this out.

One of my favorite hops is Amarillo and I like the single Amarillo hopped beer, Gumball Head. So I just kegged this beer with a dry hop addition of Amarillo AND an ounce of Sorachi Ace for a taste exbeeriment. But this is a controlled test since I know the impact each hop brings to the table. If I was unaware of what Amarillo or Sorachi Ace brings to the table single-handed, this taste test is virtually meaningless. One step at a time....one change at a time.

So just tasted today after just over a week carbonating and bottle conditioning.

Great taste but a hint of bitterness on the after taste, im hoping this will fade a little over time.
But just using Falconers flight hops worked out well.
