I have started a recipe from Andy Hamiltons "booze for free". its called sort of cider. I don't quite understand how to do a certain part and was hoping someone could clear it up please.
ingredients are
1kg apples
500g sugar
4 litres water
thumb sized piece of bruised ginger
half tsp cloves
champagne yeast
"wash the apples and grate into a fermentation bin. top up with the water and add yeast. leave lightly covered for five to ten days. strain into a demijohn add the sugar and spices and shake vigorously. leave for another ten days before siphoning into screwtop bottles."
now my question is do I add the ginger whole? and after its in the demijohn do I strain everything out before I bottle?
thanks for any advice
