I bought a spare for just this reason.

That being said, you could always visit a 24 hour store like Wal-Mart or a gas station that does propane exchanges. It'll cost more for less propane, but I guess that's the provide you pay for not being prepared.

But... you also have to realize that a trip to go get one filled usually goes like this:

1) show up with empty tank and ask for someone to help fill it
2) you pay, they page someone, and you wait............
3) guy shows up 10 mins later and starts to fill your tank
4) takes a while to fill it... you wait again....
5) if you didnt pay in advance, guess what... more waiting......

net result... its worth it to lose some money on an exchange...
if you are lucky like Revvy and find someone willing to give you a 17# exchange, take it and run like the wind....

It's the old story: Service Quality Price. Pick any two.

(sometimes you only get one)

After reading this thread, the $1.75 black Tee, the $8.00 shut off and some flexible gas line doesn't seem so bad to tap into my gas line already in my garage. (for the water heater and stove). I like the heat of the propane, but I know I'll never run out of natural gas halfway through a session. I just hope the OP's beer comes out good enough to serve to others.
