Hello to everyone from the Outerbanks of North Carolina. I'm located in Kitty Hawk, just 2 blocks from the Atlantic Ocean. In case you are wonder what OBX is all about, it's the abbreviation that is used on just about everything around here to signify Outer Banks.

Guilty as charged. We venture there every year for vacation as well.

Welcome to the forum obxgeorge, the best homebrewing resource on the 'net.

Guilty also.Been there got the stickers,t-shirts and license plates.I /We Love the place,We've got a house rented in Rodanthe for a week in mid May. We were down last year-same time,Real happy to be goin' back. I Should try sneekin' some home brew down and have a sampling..... Shane

I lived in the Outer Banks in the mid 70's. My father was at the Coast Guard station in Oregon Inlet. We live near the park ranger station . Actually weathered a Hurrican in Bodie Island Lighthouse during that time. I loved that period of my life.

Vacationed on the Outer Banks many years ago. We planned to go hang gliding at Kitty Hawk, but my 1970 Buick Electra blew a tire, and SWMBO was too worried/paranoid to drive around without a spare. No tire stores on the outer banks. Great place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Only that calling it "OBX" like the bumper sticker will almost certainly earn you a good kick in the nuts:D . SWMBO's parents live in the southern outer banks. Nice down there. Much less crowded and tourist-infested than Nags Head, Duck, etc.

Ok.....well thanks for that input. I guess the guy that lives there and used OBX in the title of this thread should get a kick in the nuts too? Abbreviations must be outlawed there. I hope you don't use any other abbreviations while visiting there... who know's what might set off the locals, right?

We go to Ocracoke every year, sometimes twice. We always drive down so that we have a 4x4 for the beaches. We stop at Kitty Hawk Kites on the way, sometimes climb the dune for some kite flying.
One trip we almost made it to Corolla, we were driving on the beach. That year the sand was really soft, and we saw a couple vehicles down to the frame. One getting winched, the others waiting for the strap. We had a heavy Chevy 1 ton van (4x4) on that trip, and I didn't want to air down yet...once I got out in the sand I didn't want to stop either, so we headed towards Corolla. Sand got softer and we started churning so I headed for the hardpack at the water line. There we got turned around and headed out. Some year I'll go all the way up to check it out, but it's google earth for now. :)

You haven't seen nothing (literally) until you have been fishing on Portsmouth Island.

mmmm I love horseflys the size of texas

Welcome, My family has been going down to the "OBX" for over 50 years now, and I have been for one week a year in my 26 years of being in this world. Things have really grown like crazy there over the past 15 years. The past 10 years I have been down there we have been staying in Duck if you were to turn by Tommy's Market and go all the way down to the end of the road its the house on the right hand side of the street the one just before the dune's. Anyway welcome and maybe next time I am down there we can share a homebrew.

Crazy how well known the outer banks have become! I've been going for about 25 years, a week in July each year. Usually we're in Nags Head in the southern area on Beach road after that 7-11. Each year, I can't go down there without going to Awful Arthurs in Kill Devil Hills (or is it Kittyhawk?), Owens and Sam and Ommies. I love it down there. Great seafood. Anyway, welcome to the board.
