Hi there!

New-ish homebrewer from Igloolik, Nunavut.

After spending $300 on two bottles of rum, I've decided it would be cheaper for me to make my own alcohol. Alcoholic beverages are limited, in my community, to those smuggled in luggage on flights, those made yourself, and those ordered through the local alcohol education committee.

As I don't want to lose my employment benefits while smuggling, and the committee + shipping is too expensive for me, I've decided to make my own.

I've been brewing wine and beer now for about a year (all the beer has been kit'n'kilo, as i doubt i could get a decent boil on a propane burner outside in -60 temps), and will soon move back to Ottawa.

I'd like to learn more about AG and BIAB brewing, hence joining a new forum :)

I look forward to learning from you guys!

Welcome to Homebrewtalk,
As a Winnipegger I can tell you that cold weather brewing is possible. Perhaps not at -60. I have done it at -20c. I just put the propane tank in a bucket of hot water and it works just like a warm summer day. Cooling the wort is easy with snow in water to submerge the brewpot in.
Best of luck in your new hobby/obsession/fascination

Have you considered indoor electric brewing? I think that would be a great option.

I have, but my electric bills are already around $900 a month, so while I'm still in Nunavut, I'll have to stick with the kit n kilo batches.

But I do plan on moving back to Ontario in a year or less. Once I'm back down here, I can get into AG brewing :ban:

Thanks for the welcome, folks :)

Where is Nunavut? Northern Canada, or Iceland maybe? Never heard of it. But you came to the right place for help, regardless! :tank:

Nunavut is one of the three Canadian Territories (the other two being Northwest Territories and Yukon)
