Brewed my first all grain batch last week from a recipe I wrote and patiently waiting to try the final product. Spent most of my free time the last year and a half reading on Homebrewtalk, and a lot of my hard earned money on equipment, books, ingredients, etc. The Ol' Lady says I care more about brewing than her but that isn't true, I love them equally! Thank you Homebrewtalk and all the knowledgeable members for making my new hobby all the more possible

Welcome. I know getting stuff there isn't cheap. Spent a year up in arctic AK, just eating was expensive when everything is flown or shipped in.

Thank you! Yes everything is ridiculously expensive up here. We get a freighter once a month and a mail plane once a week if we're lucky. I bought 55 lbs. of 2-Row, 10 lbs. of Munich, 10 lbs. of Crystal 60, and 5 packages of dry yeast, along with some Denali, Amarillo, and Cascade hops. All from Artic Brewing Supply in Anchorage and packed them along with me on the 2 day ferry ride from Homer. Saved me a ton on shipping! Gonna spend the winter brewing 2.5 gallon BIAB batches on my stove top. I commercial fish in the summers and late winter so I have plenty of free time right now for brewing. So exciting!

Welcome. Pick up some pint canning jars when you have the chance. Harvesting yeast from your fermentors will save money. A pint of yeast is also a great gift for a fellow brewer.

Thanks for the advice flars. Got plenty of canning jars laying around (we can our own sockeye salmon every season) and I'm hoping to get a few generations from each package of dry yeast (us-05, notty ale, and bry-97 west coast)
