Hey Everyone,

I'm a recent expat to Brittany, France (the little part in the Northwest that jets out into the Atlantic), and as I'm living a very rural (and sometimes "boring" day-to-day life), I decided to pick up homebrewing. It's something I've always wanted to do (I'm originally from San Francisco and grew up drinking from microbrews throughout the Bay Area), and now I finally have the time!

As I'm in a very rural area, it's hard to find all of my ingredients - luckily there is a beer shop based in Lyon, France, who can ship me supplies in under three days (they also have American hops which is a huge plus as I'm an IPA lover)...the area around me is known for their amazing ciders, but I'm hoping I can instill a little American homebrew love into the countryside here...Looking forward to reading this forum some more to get some great brew ideas!

You came to the right place for ideas pertaining to all things brewing! At least you can get American hops to play with.:tank:

Welcome to the hobby, and the group, from CO :mug:

I imagine you'll have lots of fun, and instill a little craft brew culture in your new home.

Man, that is outstanding, but be sure to investigate how to make the local ciders - imagine how cool it would be to bring those skills back to the states when you return!

The post I made in the cider forum is an old sparkling cider recipe the French are supposed to like. I didn't know that in my 20's when I came up with it.

Thanks for the welcome everyone! I just finished a kit pale ale, and it's currently aging in bottles (I opened one last night after a week in the bottle, and it was pretty good!)...looking to brew an IPA next, would love a simple, very hoppy and easy recipe (I already have 1.7kg of LME, so I'm hoping to use that)...can anyone point me in the right direction?

Also, re the cider, I'd love to learn more about it, but I'm honestly just not a big fan of the taste...it's far too sweet for me :)

Mine was a bit Brut as I remember. Haven't made it in years. You can check out my recipe drop-down under my avatar for an AE IPA I used to brew. Since I live in Ohio, I named it BuckIPA....buckeye state in other words.
