greetings from nuremberg, pa

how long of a lag time till i should get worried. its been 24 hours and nothing yet.
my other batches took off quick.
they were tap water
this time i used store bought distilled water and yeast nutrient with safale 05 yeast
its a licorice stout
og 1.050
basement temp is 64

Shake the carboy/bucket to get the yeast into suspension, also try to raise the temp a few degrees if you can. I would give it another day after shaking it.

Are you bubble watching or have you looked at it?
Sometimes the seal isn't always perfect and the pressure goes out at the leak instead of out the airlock.
24 hrs isn't that long, I've had a couple that took about 48 to get rolling.
:mug:

After 72 hours, if there is still no activity, hydrate and pitch another packet of yeast. No big deal. I have been brewing for all of two years, and it has happened to me twice. The beers turned out AOK.
