So here's the story. Had an infected wheat. Was baaaaad. Went to clean and sterilize everything and did but started wondering if I harvested the yeast from that batch would anything I make with it go bad? Didn't do it and am guessing that would be the case but who knows. just a passing thought.

I think you can acid wash yeast. This may take care of an infection. Others may chime in here.

But when we are dealing with the cost and time put into a batch vs the relatively low cost of fresh yeast, its a no brainer. Throw it out.

Acid wash cleans almost healthy yeast, it will not kill an infection. Dump it, wash everything it touched very very well, sanitize it well.

I assume you could isolate healthy colonies on petri dishes/plates, but without right equipment and process I would simply dump it.

Yeah, $3 for new yeast is a good investment to protect $20-30 worth of ingredients and your time on the next batch.

Figured this would be the reaction and, to the relief of all, had already dumped it. Just was wondering if there was a possibility it could have been saved and how one would have gone about doin it. Idk something romantic about running the same yeast(literally) again.
