Cheers from the Wash, DC area. Glad I found this forum because it appears to be friendly and incredibly useful. The scope of topics and discussion is amazing.
Began my first batch this weekend after weeks of reading up and gathering equipment. It's a little ambitious for a complete noob, I admit, but so far, so good. My own modification to a simple brown ale recipe...
2.5 lbs Amber LME (from 2 lb DME base)
4 lbs Light LME (from 3.3 lb DME base)
Steeped grain mix (Crystal 90L, Black Patent)
.5 lb light brown sugar direct to the wort
Bittering hops: 1 oz. Fuggles (1 hr)
Aroma hops: 1 oz. Cascade (10 min)
OG: 1.052 pitched at 73 deg, using Wyeast 1056 (American Ale). No starter used.
After the second full day of fermentation, it's bubbling away at 72 degrees.
Fun!
