Hello to all,
I am mid-brew on my first batch. I started this past Saturday after much discussion, nearly three years of talking about it with my neighbor. He has been homebrewing for almost a decade now and does a pretty good job. He has steadily encouraged me to get involved and I have finally caved in and joined the fun. I enjoy making things (from fininshing basements to smoking beef briskets), and as I get experience I love to tinker with inputs and discover the results. I think this will be a good hooby for me, and I look forward to many discussions with you.
Now for my first try, I am brewing a Pennsylvania Lager (from a kit of course) that should be ready next weekend for bottling. I chose something familiar so I have a reference point (Yuengling Lager) for when my first batch is finally ready. I have already had some misques like my cooktop is not powerful enough to bring 3 gallons of water to a rolling boil and my airlock broke while I was inserting it into the lid. I continue to push forward though, and hope the brew gods look down with favor on my initial try.
