I just racked my hefe to secondary and boy did it smell bad! The krausen remains were green?!? I have attached pictures, but sadly i cannot share the smell with you all... This is only my second batch, but the first did not smell so friggin bad! There is still that good beer smell, but also a feet smell. I used a starter this time and the krausen made it about 1/4 way up the airlock before receding. The airlock is being a pain to clean, BTW! Will drinking this brew kill me, do you think? I will drink it unless it will kill me cuz I'm cheap like that. Thanks all you brewheads.

The good news: nothing in beer will kill you or hurt you too bad. The kraeusen looks pretty normal to me, especially if you used hop pellets.

The other news: the couple hefe's I've brewed smelled pretty good during and after ferment (like banana bubblegum).

I agree that the pics look normal and the green could be hop pellet residue. As for smell, yeast can have a twang to it. The proof will be in the palate. Give it time to off gas a bit more before you bottle and see what happens.

Also, if you have other verbage to discribe what you smell we will do what we can to help you. How long has the beer been sitting on the yeast? What yeast did you use?

Hope this is just a case of brewer worries.

Yep I used hop pellets. Yeast was WY3068. It kind of smelled like a mix of stale bread and feet and beer.

Green scum is a common result of using pellets, not a problem. I agree that this looks normal. Give it a week or two in the secondary.

WY3068 "Produces the classic spicy weizen character, rich in clove, vanilla, banana." Banana can be nasty before it ages.

totally normal. (like I'm an expert). looks just like mine though, and my beer tastes awesome.

Could you feel the CO2 tickling your nose when you took a deep breath? :)

Sounds like everything is going just fine, sitback, relax and have a homebrew or something like that.

Yes, now I finally have some conditioned and can do so!

That batch is still fermenting in the secondary, after I added some squezed lemon juice. It smells quite good and I'll be bottling in a few days.

I won't be blamed for making another home brewer suffer. Let it brew out and bottle it. Then send it to me for proper disposal. For Gods sake don't drink it.

Naah, can't do it. Everything looks fine by your pictures and discription. If you like the taste then drink it. If you don't like the taste and have room to long store it then do that. You will eventually like that brew and wish you had more.:mug:
