So I brewed up a batch of all grain choc. Maple porter from Brooklyn brew shop... I'm pretty new to home brewing (this being my 2nd batch) everything went smoothly and I took my initial grav before filling my carboy
My question is now that my beer is approaching 2 weeks (I plan on leaving it in my fermenter for 3 wks) how do u guys take gravity readings from your carboy?
Do you siphon out enough to fill your hydrometer flask so u can take the reading?
Also the directions say prime before bottling with 1 cup of maple syrup. Sounds like Alot to me.?. What do u guys think?

I know stupid question
Thanks

Some people use a wine thief, others use a turkey baster. Be sure to sanitize anything that comes in contact with the beer, and don't forget about hydrometer temp. adjustment.

I use a wine thief. I used to use a sanitized piece of tubing, drop one end of the tube into the beer, put your thumb over the free end and pull the sample.

not a stupid question. you'll know the stupid one when you read it.

cheers!
