I moved from my primary to my secondary fermenter today and although I didnt get a reading at the beginning, I kinda know what is should be, so I figured if I got a reading today I would at least know where I stand at this point.
I had what I though was a problem in the beginning, I believe I pitched my yeast a little to hot and I never really got any bubbling in my primamary, so I was a little worried and that is also why I got a reading today.
I grabbed a sample about half way throuigh the process and when I was finished it read 0.990.
Its supposed to be:
Starting Gravity: 1.064
Final: 1.017

I'm not really sure what a 0.990 reading means at this point, but I dont think its good. Any ideas?

What's the recipe? Simple sugars will ferment out completely, so ciders and wines often finish at .990.

You can try double checking your hydrometer in plain water, to make sure the hydrometer is accurate. Make sure the test jar is filled, and that the hydrometer is free-floating in it.

The test jar was definately filled, it was almost overflowing when I put the hydrometer in it.
I did not test it in water, but I will right now, thanks for the advice.
