Hey guys,

First time this has happened to me and I'm a bit stumped. I made a really citrusy IPA, bottled it, and it tasted great three weeks later. I end up traveling for a few weeks and come back home to crack open a labor of love. It comes out significantly darker and hazier than prior with much more carbonation and little flavor or aroma. Any thoughts on the culprit?

Thanks!

Time is my initial thought...with any hoppy beer you will lose aroma and flavor over time...I think even more so with bottles...just one mans .02 though I'm sure others will join in the convo

:mug:

Sounds like oxidation to me too - except the part about "much more carbonation". That sounds like infection. I haven't seen oxidation lead to more carbonation. But I can vouch for the darkening effects (having lived through that with hoppy beers).

Definately oxidation. I just had this happen to one of my hoppy ales. The culpret for me was the tube coming off my racking cane being too big for the cane, I think. I ran threw my whole racking an bottling set up to make sure everything was supper tight and as little air as possible was getting in.

Drink those beers up and start a new batch! Quick!
