Good Mash Tun? Rectangular Cooler w/ Spigot on Long Edge

I bought a 50qt Rubbermaid cooler to use as a mash tun.

The spigot is on the long edge of the cooler rather than the short edge. I've read about only slotting the longitudinal pipes in a manifold to prevent channeling. Will this work with the manifold feeding to a spout on the long edge of the cooler? Would I still only slot the pipes that run the length of the cooler? I can post pictures of the cooler and the desired manifold design when I get home.

There's no reason that this would not be as good as any other type cooler

Any thoughts on slitting only the longer pieces of pipe?
