Yes, I realize this maybe a dumb question but I'm in the process of rehydrating some US-05 to pitch in about 10 mins. A fruit fly fell into the bowl, is it still safe? I have some other dry yeast (munich, s-04) but really wanted to use this for the wheat I'm brewing... Any help?

Of course it just died in mid air. It caught of wiff of his ambrosia and figured anything left in it's life would just be a let down, and died.

I guess it didn't actually fall, it flew. I decided to pitch different yeast to avoid the off chance of my wort becoming infested with maggots. In the future, I'll cover my rehydrating yeast and describe the actions of fruit flies with more precision...

I guess you checked out that thread then? Nasty image, heh?

I thought fruit flies in particular carried acetobacter, which you DO NOT WANT in your beer unless you like 5 gallons of malt vinegar.

I would dump that yeast and open a new one.

Why did it take so many posts for someone to say the logical answer: NO! Fruit flies are COVERED in bacteria!

I think weirdboy's answer is a little more professional and probably alot more right than the one I provided. :p
