I just got around to buying some foodsaver bags so i could divide up some of the bigger bags i got from freshops.com in the fall. most of the bags are right on weight, or a couple grams over, but 2 of the bags have been short by a whole half ounce. it really pissed me off, especially considering that during the same time period folks were reporting getting orders from hopsdirect that were 50% or even 100% bigger than what they'd ordered. in retrospect i suppose it was foolish for hopsdirect to be so loose with there measurements, but i'd at least expect my hops to weigh what i ordered. freshops has definitely turned me off as a customer, but i'm not sure that matters in the long run given the state of the market.
as for the bags that were a gram or 2 over, i've been putting the scraps all together in a ziplock and writing the contents with weight and AA%. question is what to do with this? my options so far are to either use it to dry hop, or to use it as a bittering addition. i'm leaning toward bittering, just because i think the 8-9 different varieties will end being a little muddy tasting as a dry hop, and a lot of the varieties are high AA%, so i think i'll get the most bang. i'm curious as to what ya'll think about the best use for these leftovers.
