My wife and I inherited a farmhouse in southwest France and are remodeling it. We're about 1.5 kilometers from the village, a nice walk. In the village, beside the 1000 year old church is the Bon Intent, a small bar for residents of the village. Your card unlocks the door, and you go in and serve yourself. In the evening there's usually an admin, but not always. When you pour a beer or open a bottle of wine, you log in with your name, the time, and what you bought. Then you drop your money into the slot that goes into a lockbox in a locked cabinet(trust only goes so far). The beer comes from a nearby microbrewery, the wines are all local. People bring bar snacks to share, it's very relaxing.

That sounds like the worst arrangement I could possibly imagine.... (inherited farmhouse, France, self serve bar with snacks and local wine/beer) You're probably stuck driving a Porsche or Range Rover or something too.

/obvious sarcasm/

Sounds amazing!

Rental Peugeot, but we're looking for a small utility truck to buy!

Oh, a Lambo LM002?

You are gonna get epic gas consumption. But that V12 is worth the $300USD to fill the 169l tank that will net you 5mpg:

Since inheriting something usually means someone died; my condolences to you & your wife.
I have a mental pic of what I think a French farmhouse looks like & it's a very nice mental pic. I think the farmhouse would be quite relaxing all by itself, but this bar you describe sounds like a nice place. I'll bet you could find someone to play a game or 5 of Backgammon whilst enjoying a beer/wine/cider & a plate of bread, cheese & fruit.
Good luck on your remodel!
Regards, GF.

Sounds very cool. If I was there, I'd be scouting around for french grapes and apples for home made cider and wine. Be a great way to see the country and meet the locals.
I suppose its legal to homebrew there?
Once I got the homebrew bubbling away, I'd be off to the Rivera for some downtime:

Just curious, how much do they charge for beers/bottle of wine at the self serve bar and are they any good?

Those women have so many clothes on. That ain't the beach we go to!

The draft is about $1.75 for a 10 oz glass. The blonde is good, the amber is too sweet for us. It's made nearby but I don't know exactly where. And sometimes they'll have 10L minikegs of good Belgians for the same price.
