I’ve done quite a bit of research here and online, but cannot seem to find a definite answer. I just recently finished building a 3-tap keezer, but am currently waiting on a friend to wire the temperature controller. I’m not sure when he will finish, so I wanted to force carbonate the kegs (just a set and forget method), then once the controller is installed (hopefully within 2 weeks), I’d be ready to tap them. I’ve got the beer kegged, bled the oxygen, and resealed with another burst of CO2, but what PSI should I set it for and how long (I’m shooting for ~2.4volumes of CO2)? My basement is somewhere in the mid 70’s.

Also, while I’m asking questions – once the kegs are fully carbed, do you leave the CO2 on, or disconnect? Sorry, total new-jack when it comes to kegging and do not want to screw it up…

Thanks in advance.

Your in pretty much the same boat I am. I did a lot of reading and think I got it. You can force carb at any temp you just have to compensate for said temp. There are charts out there but luckily I have Beersmith. For 2.4 volumes at 72 degrees it said to set the pressure to 30 psi. I'm pretty sure you can just leave it alone on the gas and it will find an equallibrium. When you cool it though you will need to dial the pressure back to 10 psi or so. Sounds like the lower the temp the more gas the beer can absorb so if you left it at 30 psi you'd overcarb. The 10 psi will keep it at the lower temp and give it the pressure needed to serve. At least that's what I've picked up from hours of post stalking.

Edit.... You leave it on the gas at 10 psi or so while in the Keezer.

Greatly appreciate the information. I'll be sure to back the PSI down once I can get them cold, but will leaving the kegs at 30 for up to two weeks end up over carbonating them? Thanks again.

if you leave it at 30 PSI at 75 degrees it will only get to 2.4 volumes of co2 no matter how long you leave it hooked up....as long as you don't change the temp it will not go above 2.4 volumes
