So I bought a "food grade" fermenting bucket from my lhbs to put this in. I left it in a week and racked it to secondary last night. I washed the primary thoroughly yet it retains a strong beer smell and has a brown tint. My question is, Can I brew a lighter beer in it without picking up any off tastes/colors?(I'm thinking specifically of a hefeweizen)

I have buckets that are decades (well maybe singular) old. Some have 'character', meaning not exactly white. I wouldn't worry about the smell carrying over to the next batch. I've never experienced that, not from beer anyway.

Now if the stains are from pickles or such... then maybe.
