I was having trouble reading the hydrometer in the test jar so I added some blue food coloring to the beer to thinking the darker contrasting color would make it easier to read and it did. I checked the ingredients in the food coloring and it didn't look like there was anything that would affect the gravity. Has anyone else tried this?

Never tried this but I would imagine with the extremely small amount of food coloring you'd have to add, it couldn't really do much to throw off your gravity. If it helps I say not a bad idea!
