I bought my wife a chicken coop for xmas....so maybe I can make chicken feed the reason for the mill...then use it to mill my own grain!

Feed your spent grain to the chicken. They will like it. You may have to give them a bit of other grains too for the nutrition that you removed in making your beer.:ban:

Our chickens really do go bananas :ban: when they see me coming with a tray of spent grain. The Tractor Supply layer feed keeps 'em going 24/7, but the beer grain treats really get them excited.

Check out eBay also, bought mine for $24 shipped to my house. Beirmuncher has a great thread called my ugly junk that has some great info on it. I have mine on a bucket hooked up to a drill and I get 75-80% efficiency on most beers. Cheap way to buy in bulk!! :mug:

That's a good deal for the better version, assuming shipping is cheap. I recently broke my cheapo $25 version and spent $38+free shipping on a Victoria from Amazon. It is noticeably a better piece of equipment. Better die and better set screw design/layout.

Do you happen to have a link? I checked amazon, but there are waaaaaaay to many different models to look at.

That matches the price mentioned. I wonder how much grain that hopper holds. Doesn't look like it would hold alot.

There is a similar model (also Victoria) that has a much larger hopper so I bought that one. I agree the one pictured has a tiny hopper. The larger version I got on Amazon was $43 if I remember correctly. These grinders work well.

I bought one on e-bay last year with free shipping for $24.78. It has an OK sized hopper but I did add an extension made out of a 100 blank DVD column cover http://www.ebay.com/itm/TALL-Cast-I...item256f296fa0:m:m2Q4phYoFLPdxmqNdv8lfXw#rwid

Be aware that the cheaper ones are cast very roughly. The higher end (priced) ones are probably a little more cleaned up and have better tolerances. Both will work well with the right amount of care and setup. Some of the higher end ones also have covers over the mills to keep dust down if they aren't in a bucket.

I put it in a bucket and cut a hole in the lid which keeps the dust to a minimum. It didn't have a shield around the mills. I also used a bolt in place of the crank handle bolt. I believe it was an 8mm bolt with a 12mm head (I took it with me to the hardware store). I spread the mills apart with washers and tightened the adjuster to space it with a feeler gauge to about .035" (a credit card is about that thick). I use a heavy duty drill with a socket adapter to run it. I get around 80% + efficiency.
