Will be brewing a rye IPA this weekend. the recipe calls for two early hop additions, one at first wort and one at 60. How can I accurately calculate the IBU's for the first wort addition? Brewers Friend shows it to be 11.02. Would that be correct?

Amount Variety Type AA Use Time IBU
0.5 oz Columbus Pellet 15 Boil 60 min 56.87
0.5 oz Mount Hood Pellet 4.8 First Wort 11.02
0.25 oz Mount Hood Pellet 4.8 Boil 30 min 6.99
0.75 oz Mount Hood Pellet 4.8 Boil 0 min
0.5 oz Columbus Pellet 15 Dry Hop 5 days

Pretty sure it just calculates for whatever the total boil time is. They say FWH is less harshly bitter than a 60 minute.

Just trying to make sure as I dont want a huge hop bomb. I'll just go with what brewers friend shows it to be.

For IBU calculations, I treat it as a 30 minute addition. It seems to work out for me. While it supposedly delivers the same (or slightly more) IBUs as a 60 minute addition, it is certainly a lot less harsh.

yeah, Ive read +10% although I would add that I dont see the point in both a 60min and a fwh addition. Just pick one or the other. Although Ive enevr found a fwh addition to be much different than 60min...
