First Time at Great Taste of the Midwest

Agreed. The mud just gets too crazy out there when it rains. Oh well...beer will be flowing, so I'll be happy.

I'm interesting in trying the Bloody Mary beer from Shorts? I think. I've had tomato juice in beer before, but never tomato juice with celery salt, horsradish, peppercorns, and dill. Also, they'll have a carrot cake beer that sounds interesting.

I like to try the new things people come up with. I don't care about things like Rare or RIS. That stuff can be bought. I'm there to try the things that are new and crazy. Shorts and Kuhnhenns are two of my favorites for things like this.

While I will agree that I like the try the crazy stuff too, but I mainly go to fests to try the rare/expensive beers. I only need a taste, not a whole bottle. What if I go out and buy a $70 bottle of BCS Rare and then don't like it (not saying that I won't, just hypothetical). I'd rather dump a sample than a bottle.

Yeah, tell me about it! Looks like the rain MIGHT clear out after noon though. If that happens, it should be alright.

Kuhnenn brewery Creme Bru La was easily the best beer there. Unbelievable.

I really wanted to try that but by the time I got there, it was gone

BCS Rare was awesome. Shorts Carrot Cake and Bloody Beer were both excellent as well.

Yes, they had there own tent. There stuff was just ok, IMO.

Vintage brought a bunch of stuff they don't make anymore and can only get at Great Taste. A friend had their bourbon stout and it was real good. Best part of Vintage's huge display was they were washing glasses with water off the tap. The kicker was that the tap handle for the water was an old Budweiser handle..

BCS Rare was awesome. Shorts Carrot Cake and Bloody Beer were both excellent as well.

I wasn't a fan of the Bloody Beer, but the Carrot cake was really good. I also liked the Creme Brulee' but didn't get a whole sample, just tried a friends. I opted for their Mango sour which was also very good.

Old Hat had a Peanut Butter Stout that they mixed with their Raspberry Bock to make a peanut butter and jelly that was very interesting.

I got a chance to check out Vintage, and their bourbon stout was amazing! I also liked their bar setup. For the first time since I started going to great taste, I actually stopped by the presentation tent. Vintage had a food and beer pairing that was amazing. They had a peach poundcake paired with a peach ale that was very good. I will be checking out the presentation tent in years to come.

I thought the Bud tap was pretty clever, me and my wife got a good laugh out of it.
