Alright. Now the age old question from the new kid. Does this look infected? My first guess is it's either yeast clumping or it's hops that made it through the strainer (which is possible haha). But I want some help from experienced brewers...there are very small bubbles on top too. It's 8 days into fermenting. Thanks for the help!!

Looks good. Looks like yeast is still cleaning up. Give it another week or two.

No, I dont think its infected either. Looks like lots of hop residue clinging to yeast rafts.

Thanks guys. Is that hop residue going to affect the flavor a lot? It's supposed to be a pale ale...I have since invested in a better strainer.

that should all settle out especially if you relax and give it plenty of time for the yeast to do their thing and clean it all up nothing to worry about.

"Relax, don't worry, have a homebrew" haha the wise words always repeated in the Joy of Homebrewing haha thanks a lot guys!

It's definitely infected... you should mail the whole batch to me asap and i'll see if I can rescue it for ya.

;)

Besides taking hydrometer readings and having consistent results for a few days, those yeast rafts dropping to the bottom of the fermenter should be a sign that fermentation is finishing up, right?

Mine usually drop to the bottom by the time it's cleared & ready to bottle. But I always verify with hydrometer readings 2-3 days apart.
