First of all a big thanks to everyone on here for all of the helpful information I have been lurking on HBT for a couple of years now, and there is no chance I would be trying all grain without all of your collective beer wisdom. I've been doing full boil extracts for about a year and a half with no problems or infections. So after finding FlyGuys cheap and easy mash tun plan I am ready to conquer all grain. I am doing a AHS Fat Tire Amber Clone today and a AHS Real Ale Brewhouse Brown Clone tomorrow. I will post back with brewing results. I think the hardest part of all-grain thou is gonna be staying sober enough to not forget a step. I have my 2 yeast starters bubbling away and my propane tank full and my Rangers whooping that Tiger a-- this evening. Like a great crackhead once said "WINNING!"

Good luck man i did my first ag yesterday was way less complicated than i thought

Had a good brew today. Good luck with the all grain but I can't wish the Rangers well. :) Lions 4-0, Wings 1-0, MSU & U of MI 5-0.

Yea good luck. Just did my first AG today. While I had a great time and can't wait to do it again, I'm gonna wait til I get better before doing back to back brew days.

Cheers

I haven't brewed in about 15 years. Since I don't have any temp controlled fermentation chambers right now, I am waiting on the weather to cool down a bit, then I will do one batch of extract to get me back in the flow, then I plan on going to all grain.

Good luck with your brewing, and GO RANGERS!:rockin:

Well things didnt go as planned. When your in the middle of a severe drought you take a chance of rain with a grain of salt. 5 inches of rain later I'm ankle deep in water under my gazebo trying to expedite my first all grain brew. I would have been ok if there wouldn't have been a steady 20 mph gust driving the rain right under my gazebo. Ohh well we needed the rain and I managed to get something in my carboy. It's to early to tell what I ended up with but im sure it will be drinkable. I pitched the yeast and it was going to town on sunday- so that's a good sign that I at least got enough sugar in there for them to eat on. I wont tell any of my friends it's a fat tire clone thou. My wife said to call it the Drought buster, but i told her I dunno that sounds like something you would get from Dairy Queen. Anyways I had to clean up the yard after the great flood of october 8th 2011 so I didnt get to brew the real ale clone. At least I learned a few things about my equipment. I pre heated mash tun and added strike water at 155 because my recipe said to mash at 150, and when i added grains it dropped to 143. It's a pain trying to get mash hotter, and would have been much easier waiting for it to cool down. The strike temp and me not using the hydrometer to see how awful my efficiency came out was about all that went wrong considering the conditions.
I plan on brewing the real ale brewhouse brown clone tomorrow under sunny skies. On a side note at least the Rangers won!
