Hello all!

I am new here, but have been lurking for a few weeks trying to learn from reading and watching videos on YouTube. I brewed the #1 from BierMuncher yesterday and I am hoping that it turns out well! I took a lot of notes and sanitized everything...A LOT. I did pitch the yeast a tad warm so we will see how it goes, but the BIAB and light sparge to get to the boil volume was a breeze. I can write another post on that and get some good community feedback.

Otherwise, it's good to be here and I am absolutely GEEKED to be doing this. I have a background in biology and I have a PhD in geology so this process is endlessly fascinating to me.

I look forward to chatting!

What yeast did you use? What are you using as a fermenter? The fermentation takes a few weeks - hurry up and wait is still good advice

Welcome! I think I even sanitized my dog on the first brew kit.... then proceeded to run chlorinated tap water into my extract brew to top it up.

Mistakes will be made along the way, keep learning!

I used Nottingham yeast (can't remember the brand) and I am fermenting in an Ale Pail. It bubbled quite a bit in the first 24 hours. I did notice that because it was warm when I capped the bucket the water from the air trap was sucked back into the bucket. I topped it off with some Star San.

Did you have any issues with the tap water? I've seen mixed things on using tap. I did with mine so we shall see! I have a chemistry background too so I will likely go for the more controlled water profile next time.

just the off-flavor from chlorine, I still drank it as it was not terrible (and it was my first batch!).. but on the journey to improve I learned that this contributes to chlorophenol and should be removed.

Good to know, I feel better about my beer now. Knowing that it will likely just be pretty average is good enough for me! So long as it's at least drinkable I won't be mad.
