Nice... Never tried Sublimely Self Righteous... Where is it from? I'm in the North East and we get a lot of stuff from across the country here but obviously only if they distribute.

Sadly it is gone. Was a Stone product that started out as their 7th anniversary ale and lasted about 9 years. Mitch Steele put a homebrew recipe for it in his book...this purports to be that recipe...I had more luck duplicating Wookey than SSR but not sure I tried this exact recipe.

I brewed this at the end of last year and loved it. The only problem is that it's very strong and you can only have about 2 pints of it.o_O
Anyone every try brew a more sessionable version of it; or would it end up being too thin and lose too much character?
I was thinking of shooting for something between 5 and 6% abv. but with that great mouthfeel. Maybe reduce the grain bill and hops by about 1/3 but mash a little higher to try and get the right balance. :mug:

*Bump* I just brewed this recipe again and for a couple reasons, it came out at 5.9% without any changes to the grain bill or hops. I've only had one pour so far but it tasted awesome to me. I haven't brewed in awhile and so the base malt was easily 3 years old and I don't have a mill (normally mill it at my LHBS when I buy the other grain) so I did it in a food processor and so I think that's why my efficiency and ABV were low.

Anyway, love this beer so much. It's great to be able to brew since they don't make it anymore (don't distro to Ohio anyway) and can't really get any black IPA's anymore anyway.

I copied the original recipe from the OP into Beersmith but Im getting an IBU of 77. Anyone else get the same?
