I own a few weapons, but don't get to use them anymore. I moved to Australia, and left all of my guns back at my dad's place. Here's the basis of what I have:

Ruger Model 1 .223 W Leupold
Ruger Stainless 10/22 with trigger job and custom stock W Leupold
Winchester Black 12 gauge pump.. forget the model
Browning Auto 5 Magnum 12 Gauge

Colt .45 ACP
Winshester XP100 pistol chambered for .221 Fireball with custom stock.

And reloading equipment for all calibers especially the .221 Fireball and .220 swift (over 1000 rounds loaded).

I currently have a Winchester 1200 Defender 12 guage, and I am buying a Taurus Millenium Pro .45 next week. I am moving to TX in August...

I have a Taurus 1911 SS. A couple rifles and a shotgun. Oh, and SWMBO has a Bersa 380 for carry.

Just stumbled across this.

I sold my High Standard Victor years ago. Big mistake. I have ever since missed that pistol. Replaced it with a new one in stainless but it ain't the same.

Don't sell your guns! At least the good ones.

I picked this up today. Taurus Millenium Pro .45 acp (pt 145) 10+1 in a 5x6x1.14 package.

That Sucks Ron! I fell in love with my Dad's High Standard and had to buy one. I had it shipped from Florida to Minnesota and paid a fair price for it.. I hope Dad's taking good care of it :)

Another of my pet peeves (probably somewhat military-centric) - the guy who refers to every gun as "a weapon."

I'm right there with you. My firearms are tools. The generally get used to punch holes in things from a distance. Outside of combat (I was 11B for 6yrs, 5 active, 1 guard), I have only felt like I was about to have to draw down and use my firearm as a weapon once. That was in Louisville, KY. Don't have any plans to return there. Also, way jealous of your A-10 flying. That bird has saved my backside a time or four. Love it.

Anyhow, I've been a shooter my whole life. Grandpa got me my first rifle when I was 5. 21 years later and I have still never negligently shot a single thing. Imagine that. I used to shoot some service rifle competitions, before I actually enlisted, and did reasonably well with a pretty terrible rifle. My 1SG in OSUT noticed I could shoot, and put me in charge of remedial training for the privates that couldn't hit the broad side of a barn from the inside with a claymore (you'd think the Infantry wouldn't have that problem but you would be wrong). The Brigade CSM noticed the same thing at a range when I got to my real unit, and made me the primary marksmanship instructor for the whole brigade, as a specialist. Lots of NCOs resented that. I do not shoot nearly as often as I would like to, but it relaxes me when I do. Usually, when I make it to the range it is because someone wants to learn - and I love sharing the gift with others, so I gladly oblige.

Since this is worthless without pics....

Carry piece (and self-gift for not dying in OIF3), bobtailed Nighthawk Custom Enforcer.

Colt AR15A3 "Tactical Carbine". Free float tube, EOTech, and new stock are on the list of things to buy. She's plenty accurate as is though. 1.25" 20rd groups at 100m as fast as I can reacquire the target and squeeze the trigger both seated and prone.

Savage 110 in .270 wearing a Nikon Monarch 3-9x - For a rifle I paid $0 for, it's more than accurate enough. Minute of Bambi as far as I care to take a shot.

My real go-to for hunting is a Winchester 1894 in .30-30 that's a good number of years older than I am. Somehow, I've managed to not take any photos of it. I might have to rectify that situation sooner than later.

Y'all shooting WWII era mil-surp rifles, how's the accuracy? My German K98 looks great in the bore and everywhere else but, is not too accurate with open sights. Has a scope helped y'all?

I have an old M/N M-44 that is surprisingly accurate with its milled-with-a-dull-spoon iron sights, just under 2MOA at 100m. The caveat here is that the rifle is incredibly ammo-sensitive. S&B 168gr BTHP Match Ammo? Groups about 88' at 100m. Yes, feet. Wolf 203gr SP? Groups about a foot. 147gr Albanian (corrosive as heck) FMJ fodder? Groups 1.75" at 100m. Another friend has one, from the same supplier, with the same arsenal marking that shoots heavy bullets very well and throws lighter bullets all over the place.

That might be your problem, or it might not. I'd check anyway, just because sending rounds down range is always a good time!

Very nice! Been wanting an M1A Scout for awhile now but haven't had the money.

I'm also a long time shooter but only started hunting last year.

My collection:

Handguns:
Browning Buckmark .22
H&R .22 revolver (wife's)
Taurus ultra-lite revolver .38
Ruger .357 (wife's)
Beretta P96FS .40
Springfield XD45 .45
Black Powder Revolver .45

Long guns:
Old bolt action .22 rifle
Remington 870 12 Gauge with the Short Barrel
STG-58 (FN-FAL) semi-auto .308 (my only EBR so far)

And lastly, my pride and joy is a 30-06 with a Mauser action and a bird's-eye maple stock that was hand-carved by my uncle. The action has the WWII German Army stamp in it along with the serial number. There's a lot of history in that rifle but it's still very functional and fun to shoot.

Looking for a great hunting rifle (30-06) and perhaps a shotgun for hunting as well..

Anyone have any good forums/websites for used hunting rifles?

It's not 30-06, but you can get a good Russian 91/30 for about $100.

Call around to the local gun stores and find one with a crisp barrel. Add a scope if you like. Ammo, when bought over the internet and in bulk, is mega-cheap. 7.62x54R-

Oh I like that. Plus its a classic so I can get into collecting some good classic rifles. Fear would be that this would be a "gateway" rifle... next stop a nice M1...

What is the bullet impact compared to say the 30-06?

Ive been wanting to buy a new rifle, i dont know if you've seen the remington 338 lapua? i called the dealer to figure out when he could get me one and he said they wont be available till the start of the year and even then it will be hard to get them. for 1250 thats one of the cheapest 338 lapua mags ive seen. right now i have the savage 110 in 30-06, mossberg 500 shotgun with the 26" and 18" barrel, and the GI 1911 springfield. nice little home protection arsenal.

DONT wast the money on a Lapua. 338 Ultramag is very close and 1/5th the cost. I am going to build a 7mm Ultramag as the overall ballistics seem to be better.

You could get a Fine 338 Rem UMag for 900$ Then youd just need a few things done 500$ worth and your gun would be shooting better with much much cheaper ammo. Barnes X bullets FTW!

If you get into classic rifles, you may want to get a C&R license.
It makes the whole process of buying *way* too easy.
Once a gun wholesaler has your license on file, you can order C&R firearms over the internet, with a click of the mouse.

7.62x54r and 30-06 are very comparable.

a not on the 91/30

I have a Izhevsk and its great fun to shoot, however, its light as hell and has no muzzle break so its not something i like to shoot all day. My friend has a m44, its just a bit shorter but has some extra weight from the bayonet as well as a slightly lower muzzle velocity so its actually a bit better to shoot, though both of them kick significantly harder than a garand or every 12 Ga. I have used, it probably doesn't help that they have a sharp metal butt plate.

but, ammo is cheap, quality varies, and they are very affordable, often found for quite a bit under $100.

Keep in mind cheap ammo can be VERY dirty, often It takes half an hour and a great deal of patches to get them to stop coming out black. If anyone has a good solution to this without using different ammo, I would really love to know

Yeah, the cheap 7.62x54R ammo is nasty... and, it's corrosive. TANSTAAFL
It's a good idea to run a Windex-soaked patch through the barrel right after shooting to neutralize the corrosiveness.

I have a 91/30 and a 44. Both kick like mules, but I seem to do better with the 91/30.

I spent 7 years active Army. After that I worked for 5 years as a small arms repairer/inspector at the rifle ranges at Ft. Dix, NJ. I used to fire almost every day.

Since then I've been a Integrated Logistics Specialist Manager, Equipment Specialist, and a Logistics Assistance Rep (LAR), for the Army.

I've fired: M16A1/A2/A3, M4 Carbine, M79 Grenade Launcher, M203 Grenade Launcher, M1911 .45 cal, M9 9mm Pistol, LAW Rocket, Winchester 12g Riot Shotgun, .38 cal pistol, M60 Machine Gun, M240 MG, M249 MG, M2 .50 cal MG, MK19 Grenade MG, Race Starter Pistol, M67 90mm Recoiless Rifle (like a Bazooka), M101 105mm Howizer, M102 105mm Howitzer, M119A1 105mm Howitzer, M1 75mm Pack Howitzer, M109A1 155mm Howitzer, M109A6 Paladin (my current job), M107mm 175mm Howitzer, M110 203mm (8") Howitzer, M114 155mm Howitzer, M198 155mm Howitzer, Mine Clearing Line Charge (5,2" Rocket with 1840 lbs of C-4 explosives for breaching mine fields), and a Volcano (mine dispenser, 640 mines at one sitting). Funny thing is, I know absolutely nothing about civilian weaponry.

I've also worked on, but not fired: Apache and Kiowa helicopter armaments,
M1 Abrams Tank, M2 Bradley Fighting Vehicle.

I've also trained with Special Forces at Ft. Bragg (there are a few foreign weapons I have touched/played with working with these guys) and supported the 82nd Airborne Division as well as deployed to Kosovo (twice).

At one time I used to have 11,800 9mm rounds in my office (don't ask).

Last Wednesday I celebrated 33 years of Federal Government Service. I'll be eligible to retire in 2 years 1 month. :rockin:

Other than that, I don't own a gun at this time. I used to, want to, just haven't gotten around to it. :D

i got a 22short

In Soviet Russia, rifle fires YOU! :p

After plinking for years with .22s and the occasional 20ga, I decided to get a few Mosin-Nagants as an inexpensive introduction to higher power, longer range rifles. I got a well-used 1944 Izhevsk M38 as a "beater" and a much nicer 1943 Izhevsk M91/30 together for just over $160 OTD. :rockin: I'm thinking about getting another 91/30 in the future and doing a sniper conversion. I'm lazy and don't like to clean them after every outing, so I have been using non-corrosive HotShot ammo(unfortunately it's not the reloadable Prvi Partisan version I have heard rumors about). I do have some 1953 and 1980 Bulgarian milsurp waiting to be tried, though.

www.7.62x54r.net/ is a great Mosin-Nagant site with lots of info.

P.S. - I love the ugly-sounding report these rifles have. :D

Well I'm getting rid of my teenage hobby that has sat around for like 15 years (Dungeon and Dragons and RPG junk) so with that money I plan on getting a 91/30 for hunting next season.... if I get what I'm looking for than I should be able to pick up the rifle and a decent scope and some ammo.

How easy is it to use a gun dealer to utilize the C&R for purchasing online? I ask cause I see some great prices for 91/30's through C&R only offers... expect to pay a "finders/payers" fee; but still think it would pan out. Why can't craigslist allow firearms sales... (I know why due to tards trying to get a weapon to inflict harm on someone... but still)....

Think of a C&R license as a "scaled down" Federal Firearms License, or FFL.

Any FFL (normal gun dealer) can buy a rifle that's listed as C&R.

Most FFLs will order something for you, cost plus $20-$25.

Having a C&R license allows you to bypass a FFL dealer for C&R designated firearms.

It costs $30 for 3 years... but it takes a few weeks to get it.

You will need to go to a 01 FFL as an 03 (C&R) cant buy one JUST to resell.
But if you know an 03 you can buy one from their collection .

Hmmm, just found this thread so I guess I will add my stuff. I don't do a ton of shooting, but I like to go out plinking every now and then. I am thinking of getting a 30-06 for next years deer season, but I haven't hunted much before. I have a few friends that hunt though.

I have a AR-15, Ruger 10/22, and a Ruger MkIII 22/45. The 2 Rugers are fun to plink with, as is the AR but its so damn spendy for .223 ammo.

Excuse the crappy pic, took it with my phone, but heres my AR:

I just got my son a Cricket .22 Bolt rifle for his 7th birthday in October. Hes a pretty decent shot for only doing a little bit of shooting. By the end of the day, he had 8 of 10 on the paper at ~50 yards using iron sights. I was pretty proud.

Hey Yuri - those BT-99's sure are sweet trap guns. I took the ride to VT with my father-in-law to pick one up about 10 years ago. I've shot it with him a bunch of times - I've never picked up a gun that fits me so well and that I can shoot so naturally. Wish I had the cash available to pick one up for myself.
