God forbid they use their anniversary to advertise?

After the Beer Temple/Oxbow "controversy" from a couple weeks ago and now this, I'm a little concerned about some folks' understanding of how businesses work...

EDIT: InB4 *Rev does the same thing and everyone applauds*

Rev is the peoples champ for a reason, their commitment to give a **** about the things Chicago beer Drinkers do is what separates them from a company like Goose and or that other place you mentioned - who now sell their backstock for 100+$ a bottle...

Meanwhile I recently bought a 2013 Deths Tar for 22 bucks @revolution. And a four pack of the best barrel aged barleywine on the market for a similar price. If you ever slight Rev again, or muddy their image I will force you to eat sand. ;)

Sounds like a happy ending for everyone

I heard they were going to close MSU and rescind diplomas from the last 20 years.

Sorry
Too late. I already got a career and a MS from another school.

If there is anything more irritating than one of those unicorn Millennials that has no debt and one career, it’s one that went to MSU for a ******** lib arts degree. Cheers, homie!

Desperate attempt by a desperate High End marketing team on behalf of a brand who I am told has been consistently losing share in Chicagoland despite increasingly flooding shelves and bars with subpar cross brew offerings in a market where competition has transcended what brand equity GI had left all these years later.

The abomination that used to be Clybourn also has seen a sharp decline in sales YOY since opening last year.

I too miss what GI was but there is no use in focusing on what used to be. Congrats on 30 years. My money is going elsewhere.

This is hearsay from a former coworker of mine who used to work in sales and still has access to these numbers. I won a bet that Matilda sales would fall off with the horribly redesigned bottle and packaging, and the conversation drifted into GI in general. What I gathered was that there is a lot of pressure from the High End now on 'fixing' GI sales.

So here's what i take issue with:

* It was taken out 6 days after Noel's book was published, which is kinda weird.
* They take credit for inventing bourbon barrel aged beer (they didn't) and also starting FOBAB (they also didnt)
* They say they "joined" AB, not sold to AB.
* The "Goose Island Family building the scene" thing. Pipeworks is listed, but neither Gerritt nor BeeJay ever worked there...so this must be in reference to Claudia, who left for Spiteful the day before this published; By Lena Brava they clearly meant Cruz Blanca, which is a very stupid mistake, and with Marz they're referencing two former Goose employees who joined up with Marz *this year*, not even close to founders. So that part seems incredibly tone deaf.
* And most of all, i see the names one the bottom, but i don't believe they wrote it. And i'm easily one of the biggest Goose apologists, and that bums me out. A lot.

Addendum: This is from the end of March, from our favorite Chicagoland beer writer (http://www.chicagotribune.com/dining/ct-food-goose-island-rebound-0404-story.html)

'Even more of a concern was the damage in Goose Island’s own backyard: 312 Urban Wheat Ale, Green Line, Four Star Pils and Honker’s Ale were all down double digits in Chicago. Goose Island’s overall Chicago sales were down 7 percent, while one of its biggest local competitors, Revolution Brewing, was up 34 percent.'

"You were there for us in the beginning in 1988, on the eve of the John Burge torture scandal breaking. But you were happy to drink our range of old-world styles. You were there again with us in the 90's, when we almost set the city-wide homicide record several years in a row, but thanks to you, we made it through.

We ride the El, and made Green Line Pale Ale exclusively for the Chicago market, which we now sell nationwide, thanks for being loyal drinkers! You were there with us when we stole the idea for Bourbon County from the Chicago Beer Society, and then claimed to have brewed it 3 years earlier than we did! We are humbled that thousands of fans line up in the cold to buy it each November, which provides us with free media coverage including live helicopter footage during the morning news.

We've celebrated a bunch. When Jordan left the NBA over gambling debts. When Steve Bartman caught that foul ball in 2003. When the Chicago Bears lost the Superbowl in 2006. When Derrick Rose tore his ACL in the first round of the playoffs in 2012 after being named the league MVP the previous year. And just this past year when the Blackhawks had the worst record in the Central division!

You have been with us through it all! When CPS closed 50 schools in one year. Or when Mayor Daley gave a 75 year lease on parking meters to a private company. We are proud to be both the second most segregated city in the US and recently named the most corrupt! But as long as you keep drinking Goose Island beer, we know it will all be ok!

PS: We don't put ketchup on our hotdogs!

CHEERS"

Seems like the 2015 recall bottles should be in here somewhere.

They could have at least mentioned whats his face at Fremont, John Laffler, or Matt Brynildson @ Firestone... pretty sure Matt and the guy at Fremont were both brewers and have advanced barrel aged american beer as much as anyone over the years.

But they didn't invent it.

And they did mention Off Color. I don't have an issue with that one, cuz it's true.

Someone deserves more than $1 for going to a cooler, popping a cap off a beer, and handing someone a glass or two?

I'm mostly kidding, as I would tip more than that, but I'm not the target market for that beer because I'll never spend $100 on a single beer. Regardless, I've never been a fan of our tipping society. I would much rather have someone make a living wage and pay more for the food / drink than be expected to pay 20% extra for service, regardless of the quality.

They were. The stout is way better out of the bottle.

Did you mean the stout is better out of bottle than on tap? Or that the barleywine was not as good out of bottle?

Mrs BobCobb is actually passing near there on way home from work trip and deciding if worth it to have her pick up a few.

Remember that the one with the slightly less bad signature left some beer glasses at Bangers and Lace filled with his piss.

i wish i knew someone with the crazy weird esoteric skill of handwriting analysis...why is there a two inch gap between first and last name?

Both were good on tap. Both had more barrel out of the bottle.

I don't really get what you're highlighting in my comments. And i don't think anyone's forgotten it. It was all over the news, and it's got about a whole chapter in the Noel book dedicated to it.
