what's the problem with that letter?
what's the problem with that letter?
Also, shouting out every small place that is owned by or hired someone who ever worked for them, like a parent saying “I created you and I can take you back just as fast.” Notice they didn’t just shout out Lagunitas for as many Goose employees that fled there when they opened here. It read to me as something that would read as friendly to an uninformed consumer and threatening to the informed who know all too well about big beer takeovers.Trying to co-opt professional sports team wins, Barack Obama's election, and Italian Beef as if they had something to do with it so please don't stop buying our beer just because we sold out to a mega corp.
Don't get me wrong, I still buy the occasional GI product (Dry Hopped 312 was actually pretty good). Just felt a little defensive to me, right after Josh Noel's book came out.
Giant international conglomerate pretends to be your best friend from high school?
Maybe not being an industry insider I don't get it, but I'm with furley: this is a press release about a company's 30th anniversary that mentions events that have happened since their opening. I'm not sure how listing those things implies "REMEMBER WHEN THE WHITE SOX WON THE WORLD SERIES BECAUSE OF US?" Listing Chicago breweries started by former employees isn't purposely ignoring other people who left. (They missed Penrose, though, again, maybe they're only covering Chicago-proper businesses.)
Seriously, any insidious reading of this is on you.
At no point while reading it did I understand the purpose. It was all parts desperate, braggadocious, aggressive, and melancholic. I kept waiting for a shoe to drop; some big announcement or something of serious interest.what's the problem with that letter?
Oh yeah, and nobody reacted like this to it you big projecting projector.athlete retires, posts letter in local paper.... **** that ******* guy straight in the ******* throat for ******* selling out and not being my favorite athlete anymore. ******* *******. **** him.

"Thank you. We're awesome. Aren't we? Yes. (?) Thank you. Thank us. Chicago is cool. Remember when?"

I read it as more of a plea: hey don't forget about us, we are still here, come drink our beer...
I'm not hating on Goose Island. I find the letter bizarre. Chill out. Have a Honker's Ale.God forbid they use their anniversary to advertise?
After the Beer Temple/Oxbow "controversy" from a couple weeks ago and now this, I'm a little concerned about some folks' understanding of how businesses work...
EDIT: InB4 *Rev does the same thing and everyone applauds*

You forgot the CPS sex abuse scandal (someone please take attention away from MSU)"You were there for us in the beginning in 1988, on the eve of the John Burge torture scandal breaking. But you were happy to drink our range of old-world styles. You were there again with us in the 90's, when we almost set the city-wide homicide record several years in a row, but thanks to you, we made it through.
We ride the El, and made Green Line Pale Ale exclusively for the Chicago market, which we now sell nationwide, thanks for being loyal drinkers! You were there with us when we stole the idea for Bourbon County from the Chicago Beer Society, and then claimed to have brewed it 3 years earlier than we did! We are humbled that thousands of fans line up in the cold to buy it each November, which provides us with free media coverage including live helicopter footage during the morning news.
We've celebrated a bunch. When Jordan left the NBA over gambling debts. When Steve Bartman caught that foul ball in 2003. When the Chicago Bears lost the Superbowl in 2006. When Derrick Rose tore his ACL in the first round of the playoffs in 2012 after being named the league MVP the previous year. And just this past year when the Blackhawks had the worst record in the Central division!
You have been with us through it all! When CPS closed 50 schools in one year. Or when Mayor Daley gave a 75 year lease on parking meters to a private company. We are proud to be both the second most segregated city in the US and recently named the most corrupt! But as long as you keep drinking Goose Island beer, we know it will all be ok!
PS: We don't put ketchup on our hotdogs!
