vav - what are the price differences between licenses? is it cost prohibitive to get the larger, less restrictive license?

The licenses aren't very expensive. Class 1 and Class 2 Brewers have a separate manufacturer's license that's $1500 and then the separate Class 1 license and Class 2 license are super cheap ($75 and $100, respectively). Brewpubs also have a specialty retailer license and I think that's in addition to the manufacturer license and is $1500. All of those fees are annual. So really not much cost in the licensing especially for large brewers since the fee isn't related to production. The state just gets a lot more in tax revenue from larger breweries.

joking aside - vav do you know if the brewpub license changed to allow more eris's? would love to make some cider & meads (ya know, wines) on my brewpub license instead of mikkellering them to some other entity so I can get my paws and control on em.

I looked into that and couldn’t find anything. The license listed on the ILCC site is the same specialty retailer license it’s always been, so either a: eris holds both one flavor of brewers license & a winery license simultaneously or b: they’re cowboyin’ it. I’m gunna guess it’s a.

Why not call the guild and ask? Maybe they’ll think you’re a new brewery again and will want to help!

I've done a bunch of research on this topic, hoping to be able to sell beer as well as mead once we're up and running. The only way we have found is to own both licenses simultaneously, unfortunately

Can you hold both licenses on the same premise? pretty sure thats no bueno. like i sorta remember, they made an exception for eris. Cant think of another mead/beer, wine/beer, cider/beer brewpub or taproom or anything in illinois. While theres like 20 in the collar states.

I didn't get into any of the loopholes. Being a new business we wanted to start building our brand before asking for regulatory exceptions or anything like that.
