Interesting event at the Map Room this weekend:

BEERS IN THE DARK

26 Drafts shrouded in secrecy. Can you tell what beers we have on tap?

anyone attend this thing? is there a link to winners?

Does anyone remember if they release a beer list before GI Stoutfest usually? I haven't gone in a few years so I haven't paid attention to the past few.

It's usually piecemeal through social media and all the attending breweries and you've got to put it together yourself. No official list sent out.

My goodness, how much Blushing Monk did Founders produce that Evergreen Park Binny's can tweet out no limit on it? They're really testing the ability of FIBs to abuse No Limit.

Vav's had 8+ cases on the floor when I stopped by at around 4, so they made a substantial amount.

If these ads I'm seeing on Hulu are any indication, Goose Island has a new label and name for their IPA. I know it's low-hanging fruit to knock on Goose AB-InBev but the ad has someone pointing out that hops don't grow in Chicago so they go to Idaho for hops -- unsaid is that they go to Colorado and New York to brew the actual beer.

Is it just me or does this look like Sam Adams' Rebel IPA?

It does look very similar in style, but I can't comment or I will be scorned by certain bloggers for agreeing with you. How dare me, Goose would never borrow inspiration from anyone...

The label says Baldwinsville, NY and Fort Collins, CO.

Goose Island not exclusively brewing in Chicago isn't a secret these days.

The only similarity, to me, is the clusters of three hop cones. The styling and feel is completely different however. Part of the problem is there are only so many ways to typeset IPA if you want it to be prominent so it's easy to group labels like this together.

Holy hell. This is why we can't have nice things.
Has anyone had the new Blushing Monk?

I have it in pretty good authority from 2 palates I trust that it's not good. Said it tastes worst than Rubaeus. Sucks for those people who bought a case of it if that's true:D

You need to trust new people. Are you sure this isn't a "last years was better" kinda thing?

Anyone else find it odd that goose can't bother making two labels or getting two labels approved so you can know where its actually coming from? I mean ultimately I don't care but this X & Y isn't true as what's in my hand is brewed in X OR Y.

Are you crazy? The people who bought it by the case don't actually plan to drink any of it...opening any of those bottles would ruin their "FT blushing monk ISO wayllezz" value!

It makes me happy when people hoard a beer for trade value only to find out that a metric **** ton of the beer was made and it doesn't have the trade value they thought.

From what I'm hearing Blushing Monk is one of those beers. I've had people offering to mule full cases of it, and with the nationwide footprint that Founders has I can only imagine how many tens of thousands of bottles are out there.

Yes and...? The label, while it's shown in the ad, is pretty hard to read.

Fair point. Maybe it's because they both read as street art to me... I dunno.

Revolution lunch on a saturday going to be jammed to the walls with diners?

I can't speak for NewMoney but I personally picked up multiples because it's one of the only beers that my wife will drink, and we both really liked the 2007 and 2011 iterations (though we had 2007 when 2011 was released, not at the time of release back in the day). This release has been interesting in that I have yet to see one trade offer pop up for it (which is great) and NewMoney hasn't really been on top of it due to the proliferation of product made (also great).
