So, on vacation in FL for Christmas. Walk into ABC liquors and see 5 cases of BCBS on the floor for $22.99/4-pack. Chicago #newmoney is officially the wurst! Oh and screw Binny's and their $28 pricing.
Something something wholesale went up, yadda yadda chain wide, blah blah blah craft beer prices trending upward.

Nothing says holiday season like middle class Americans getting excited at the possibility of paying more money for the same thing.

18th Street releasing Hunter Coffee at 5:00. Line has probably started already.
I just happened to be here meeting some friends without being aware of the release and was preparing for the New Money onslaught but it didn't seem too bad actually. Looked slightly nuts to butts in the bar area for the 15 minutes prior to 5:00 but the other side was chill. Got to try it on tap and it was solid. Serving it as a whole pint too.
Guess New Money blew their wad at the BA Mediocre Stout release at Hailstorm?

What the **** is "Hailstorm?"
If you're New Money or wear a trilby/fedora, proceed to answer A. If not, proceed to B:

A) Hailstorm makes the newest hot walez...#waxtop #vanillabeanvariant #lowbottlecount
BUY! BUY! BUY!!!

B) Nothing to see here...srs.....super srs.

I hear what you guys are saying about Hailstorm and this bottle release and although I mostly agree with you I did enjoy the bottle of Vlad I opened last night. Mind Blowing? No…but does it have to be? It's solid and maybe not worth the $15 price tag but I paid it and don't regret it. It was also nice to be able to still go to work and swing by the brewery at 4pm and still grab bottles. I don't think I would have waited in the line early in the morning. Hype, new money, fib'n…call it what you want but I liked it.

I think one of the brewer(s..?) is in the small FB group I belong to. Still didn't really know much about 'em until a couple of weeks ago, but seems like a good dude/most of the members like the stuff so I will definitely try it out sooner or later.

I can't keep up with all these ******* breweries opening. Halp.

Agree with all the openings. Hailstorm and 350 Brewing are only 15 minutes or so drive for me so it's nice to have a couple options so close. Both are nice, laid back places to have a beer or two. Frank over at 350 is a cool cat, super friendly and I really like the atmosphere at 350 he creates. He even said they allow you to bring in bottle to open and share. Not sure if this is the norm at these small places.

Mediocre or not, I wish someone would open a spot down here in the cornfields...would carltondance.gif for days. Having to drive 25mi for a decent beer on tap is awful.

Added 350 to list of things to see.

Still have to hit 350 myself but I will agree Hailstorm was a nice chill place. Just wasn't impressed with their beers. Being so close, I'll check them out again in the future and hope the beer gets better.

Yeah the offerings are good, not great but I like doing the support thing as long as it's not total crap. Decent beers in a good atmosphere close by is good enough for me. You're close too?

Right on. I just prefer One Trick even though they're slightly further. Just seems like a lot of these new places will focus on trying to push out as many bombers on shelves as they can instead of creating great beer for their taprooms. Maybe they make more money on the bombers? I don't know.
Yeah I'm right in Oak Forest, so 5-10 minutes away?

I was referring to New Money lining up 3 hours early for a beer nobody has had, from a base beer that is pedestrian, from a brewery that has been open 10 minutes.

Hailstorm may just be the next big thing in Chicago beer, who knows? Doesn't justify new money idiocy.

at least the penrose and nuthulu lines had some degree of logic. proven brewers who already make great beer kicking out a special release that at least some segment of the population has tried before and liked.

gonna have to save all my beer cash for when straight jacket drops in january. ain't got time for new money
