Especially this. Plus, aside from the promise that Transient has, I really, really like the idea of Transient creating a little more momentum for saison/wild-focused breweries in Chicago. It's great having plenty of new breweries around, but some style/focus variety would be fantastic. Given the farming focus in the Midwest, it's really disappointing that we haven't seen more breweries like this popping up here, even on a small scale. I wouldn't think that the lack of small nanos like are seen in New England and the Pacific Northwest are the result of difficult legal issues, as there are otherwise plenty of nanos, they're just focused on the same American styles as almost all the other breweries here.

While on the subject, I should at least give a shoutout to Penrose, as I really like what they're doing.

This played a big part for me joining in the first place. My palate has migrated to a strictly lambic and saison basis, so this type of brewery is exactly what I was hoping for to spring up in our area.

So what time is everyone thinking of getting to Penrose on Saturday? It doesn't seem like there is much hype behind this (thankfully).

Decided to go to Kuhnhenn instead. Instead of walking away with a bottle or two, I will hedge my bets and just get a case.

Another FYI for anyone coming out this way Saturday or really anytime starting today, Niche in Geneva has 2012 BCBS on tap along with Perennial Sump and PW Sure Bet right now. They don't open until 5PM, so you'd have to really make a day of it on Saturday, but I figured somebody might want to know. Last I knew, they had another hard to find beer on draft (as of Friday night) that isn't posted on beermenus. It's a surprise for whoever shows up in person.

it appears as though quinnsi is trying to educate some of the CCBE's, I hope a bunch of em take those classes and stop posting pictures of an IPA and asking peoples opinions of it.

Those are the worst posts. "Hey, I have/bought/found/hoarded this beer.. I know there is a wealth of written information on it across 3-4 rating/review platforms I can look up easily before I had purchased it.. but why don't you Facebook strangers tell me if I should drink it or just keep it in my closet for awhile in hopes it'll be worth something now that I've already disregarded all that relevant information and just bought it anyways"

Well dontdrinkbeer Alerted the masses about Wild V so expect a 5 alarm shitshow on Saturday at Penrose especially since there's only 300 bottles. Allocations won't be decided until Saturday morning.

Keep in mind they have many well versed beer nerds on staff including themselves. They can smell mules. It's the holiday season. Give your mules the weekend off.

It has been odd how they've hyped this. One of the main guys even posted to CCBE about it a couple times, didn't he? It's like they aren't absolutely sure it'll be a **** show.. so they've just kicked it in that direction a few times for good measure.

Do they typically still do half price Wednesday on the awesome beers?

Hobbs has basically sounded the alarm anywhere and everywhere. He posted on CCBE, he posted additional info on BA and started a thread, it's all over Facebook and Twitter, and it's been hyped locally. They're really trying to get a big showing for the first bottle release. I know a lot of folks on here are curious about how many from Chicago or CCBE or whatever will show/line up. I'm more curious to see the local attendance, and by local I mean literally Geneva folks. Their bread and butter for the past 9 months has been locals drinking up anything and everything they make. Geneva people love Geneva stuff, and Hobbs was born and raised there.

I'm hoping that 300 bottles means 300 bottles sold to the general public that line up as I have to hope that family members and investors have an additional stash outside of that 300. Who knows. In a few days, we all will know what a Penrose release looks like.

Outside of actually getting bottles, the release should be nice. They've got a nice taproom, they'll have the Wilds and an imperial stout on draft, and they have some food for sampling. I wouldn't count on getting more than one of each bottle, but if that's the limit, I can't see anyone not getting bottles.

You know it. Half price drafts and half price bombers. That being said, if a bunch of folks flock there just to get a bunch of BCBS pours and don't buy food, it'll ruin that policy for everyone. It's still a restaurant. They make money selling food. 90% of the people I've met at bottleshare there on Wednesday nights have been awesome and really helped by buying food and beer, but that still leaves 10%.

They don't list food prices on their website. I'm guessing I am the 10%. :(

Last Wednesday I purchased 3 items for $23. The burger and fries is $8. Most small plates are $6 to $12. There are a few salads around $10. Entrees are usually near $25. Two small plates should usually do the trick unless you plan on really drinking hard. You don't have to have your dinner there. Heck, just get an order of homemade soft pretzels for $6 and one beer and that is absolutely greatly appreciated. It's a Wednesday night. They're not expecting a $100 dinner tab.

Good luck to maximthegreat and Lansman and whoever else decided to mod over at CCBE. Despite many enjoying the trolling or general idiocy, I officially lasted less than a month. It's a cesspool, and this morning I took my last swim. Back to regularly scheduled pictures of people's kids, political hottakes, and the thinly veiled racism that typically pollute my facebook timeline, ahh the joys of growing up in a small town.

I don't have any idea to what this is referring. Shoot me a PM and let's see if we can figure out what happened?

stakem played a part in that too
this does not compute

i dont facebook well with others...let alone tagging Dany every time i pop a tome. I cant imagine what that poor guy thinks everytime some clown pops a bottle, takes a dick pic and tags him in it or posts it on his wall.

if your talking about etre, i only got 1-2 bottles from there. proclaimed its gloriousness and desire to own cases of it. it stopped there as i dont have the benjis to just toss around everytime a tomer makes my pants tight

I thought you grabbed more for some reason of it.

From where

When is anything really "out" from etre?

I probably told you "new batch of blanche is ******* awesome, time to stock pile cases" and then you distracted me with talking about Ete and i ended up ordering a box full of just Ete instead of Ete and Blanche.

This is your fault, i hate you.

I believe you may be taking beer entirely too serious.
