Demolition started today and our employees got to take the first swings. We'll keep you up to date on the progress as the raw space starts to look like a place you want to drink.

Kidding aside, I'm surprised it's taken this long. The pubs published their own websites, wholly different and separate from the brewery pages. Just another wedge between the entities - do we think there's a name-related dispute coming? Likely just worthless speculation but to the extent that AB-InBev has been staking out its own territory, I just wonder what sort of licensing rights the brewpubs still have.

Not sure about naming / licensing rights per say, but I distinctly recall that the pubs were not part of any sale to In-Bev and John Hall still has a role on the board at Goose Island.

I think everyone is happy coexisting and making $$$ at the moment, but time will tell.

opened my transient red wine obelius tonight. excellent beer, but i think i'm gonna agree with Treebs that the obelius variants are not yet in their prime. i have a really good feeling that in about 6-8 months, obelius and varants are gonna be really, really killer as opposed to just "very good" right now.

Oh, absolutely - the pubs were separate from the larger sale from the start. My only point was that as time has progressed, AB-InBev has worked to better differentiate/cleave itself from the brewpubs. RateBeer was asked to formally break up its reviews depending on if it were the brewery vs. the brewpub. Fast forward to today and the brewpubs and the brewery have totally different websites (though the brewpub could really learn a thing or two from a search engine optimization workshop).

But, having said that, it just goes to show you that AB-InBev is drawing a clearer line in the sand about Goose Island beers - to the extent that they are going to build a new tasting room/visitor space is great and all, but are they also just shitting all over the business John and Greg Hall started way back when?

Or do we even care? Please, give me a great tasting room near my apartment. I will be there all the time -- especially if they have coffee beers on tap and/or Dominique.

Still, for whatever work goes into the new brewery, I just think of what John Hall has said in the past about a river-front brewery. These plans appear to be more about what St. Louis wants rather than the voices in Chicago. And that's fine - but it's also hard to muster a real strong, local "hoo-ray".

And as to the idea of the IP... look, before AB-InBev, the Goose Island brand was worthwhile. I'm sure that the contract between AB-InBev and Goose is complicated to hell but, yeah, it's not clear who owns 'Goose Island' and/or the logo. Definitely a part of any further discussions.

I don't think it sold out last night unless there was a mad rush of people. I saw someone post on facebook they had 10 cases or so left around 9.

WOW! Color me surprised...still gonna save my money for more Transient this weekend.

Showed up for the Grimm Vicar release an hour early since I really wanted to snag a bottle for a friend's birthday this coming weekend. They released 350 bottles total, and I want to say there were about 200 people or so in line. Probably one of the smoothest bottle releases I've been to. Official release was at 6:30, staff started checking IDs and handing out numbered tickets around 6:00 and they started letting people in to buy bottles at 6:15.

They also had some available on draft: 5oz pour for $6. Reminded me a lot of Bourbon County Barleywine, lots of barrel and bourbon character, syrupy butterscotch and toffee malt backbone, a bit of tannins from the wine barrel.

Watched a few clown-penises get their bottles, walk to their car, change shirts/put on hats and jump back in line, but I guess I shouldn't be too surprised.

Also, as if we didn't already know this, the CCBE facebook group is such a goddamned cesspool. Someone from the brewpub was kind enough to post to the group that there were about 100 bottles still available with no line last night. Not five minutes later, some ******* posts in the same thread bitching about Goose Island screwing over customers by not producing enough to keep up with demand. Pretty sure that if there are bottles left over that they've more than met demand. Guess if the bottle isn't hand delivered to a customers doorstep with a complementary ******* Goose Island ****** up yet again.

Yes, definitely. Though it appears that getting a small child, her mother, and her grandmother to stand in line with you at a suburban shop during Black Friday is cool.

Just got an email from Chris. No drafts on Sunday but OTP opens at 3. He said he'll be there from 8AM to 5PM at a minimum, but he would send out more firm hours when he has them solidified. Hope this helps the Transient RS folks plan out their Sunday a bit. I'll probably knock it out in the morning so I have the rest of the day available for family and football.
