Tried some of Revolutoin's Citra Hero last night. It's... okay. Really syrupy (I thought) and sweet. Strong Citra hop flavor but the body did not deliver (if I had a nickel for every time I've heard that about me... derp). Zombie Dust may be bottled hype at its finest, but since it's (nominally) a pale ale, at least it's refreshing.

Anyone know if the Lagunitas tap room is doing growler fills?

Anyone know if the Lagunitas tap room is doing growler fills?

Just curious why you'd want growler fills of beers that are sitting on the shelf and pretty damn fresh. Correct me if I'm wrong, but they don't have anything special on for growler fills, right? The last tap list I saw was their standard line up.

Upcoming anniversary party at Goose Island Wrigley:
Goose Island Wrigleyville is celebrating our 15th Anniversary! In collaboration with Goose Island Beer Company and Illinois Craft Brewers' Guild, we invite you to join us for an evening of local beer and food in the shadow of Wrigley Field.

Proceeds benefit Gordon Biersch and former Goose Island brewer, John Wyzkiewicz's six year old son, Bodhi, who in May 2013 was diagnosed with a highly malignant form of childhood brain cancer, medulloblastoma. His prognosis is excellent, and the Chicagoland craft beer community has rallied to raise money to help defray some of the costs associated with Bodhi's ongoing care.

I would destroy a growler of fresh NightTime. The bombers sitting around are old & from CA.

I really don't get the Breweries that sell growlers around here. They should be cheaper then their packaged counter parts. Really wish more bars sold growlers in Chicago. Seems the few that do are worth it though. I picked up a 64oz enjoy by 7-4 a few weeks ago for 20 bucks.

Where at? That's technically illegal with current growler laws.

Intriguing. $25 for 12 oz though. Yowza.

Also, unable to abide the misspelling / grammatical errors in the first sentence:
- "Our first collaboration features Goose Island's Gillian beer, apply named after a amuse-bouche . . ."
Totally agree. I've tried a couple of Dark Matter's barrel-aged releases before... I don't see it as much more than a novelty. But, for diehard coffee/Goose Island fans, it might be a novelty worth trying at least once!

If ISO FT taught me anything, it was that there is fresh, FRESH, and FRESH.

I get this event is a bit different given the charitable aspect, but the "pay large amount now, sweet beer list tbd" has gotten so old for Chicago events. I'm sure I'll end up regretting not getting tix every now and then, but I just refuse to hand places money on some blind promise of special awesome lineup.

Totally agree. The VIP thing kind of irks me, too - seems like nothing more than an easy way to milk another $1,000 out of people. The BPT listing does include a partial list of what's available, though:
FEATURING:
Madame Rose
Ogden
Pineapple Brettanomite
Nthulhu
2013 Flanders Red
26th Anniversary ESB
Morticia
Rasin in the Sun

..just to name a few..

Tickets include food and beer!

Not to mention that there's not even the promise of a souvenir glass!

Isn't that a link to the previous Clybourn party?

A nice nugget over on BA from Ri0 today regarding NG sour releases:
From today's Madison.com beer chat
So, one more nugget from the conversation with Deb Carey at New Glarus that I'll pass along here. Last year New Glarus dropped a very limited amount of an R&D wild ale called Very Sour Blackberry that was released only at the festival and at the brewery that weekend. It sold out super fast....
This year, in a similar vein, Deb said New Glarus is releasing two gueuzes -- another spontaneously fermented style - one light and one dark. She didn't have a lot of technical details on them - Dan's the guy for that, and he's out of state at a barley conference - but she did say one of them is fermented with Michigan peaches. She said the tasting samples on that are very good.
So that'll be the beer that's going to swamp New Glarus with Great Taste goers this year. Deb said they did make more of the guezes than they did of Very Sour last year, so it should be somewhat more plentiful. Last year's stock sold out in hours, as I recall.

Figured I'd post it here because FIBbin ain't easy. I'll be heading up Friday for those peaches nice and early. Can't wait.

Anybody else see West Lakeview has bottles of Upright Grape Fantasia on the shelf? Almost $30, but I couldn't believe that hit shelves. The actual name is something crazy like Jeux Deau. It's basically Fantasia base with grapes. Anyhow, I figure some folks would like to know.

One thing I definitely remember from last year's release was that Dan said they would never again refer to their sour beers as lambic or gueuze. In light of that, I'm not sure what to make of this comment: all bunk, partly correct or just written by knuckleheads?

I was in Chicago this past weekend and stopped in to see what was there. Pleasently surprised to see this on the shelf. $30 bucks was hard to swallow but I bit the bullet and bought one.

There could possibly be a disconnect between Dan and Deb. I'm not sure how much they communicate on the beer/recipe side of the business so it could be a simple misunderstanding.

Could'a been, I guess.

From what I can tell, there is often a miscommunication between Dan and Deb. See 2012 R&D Sour Brown Ale for further details.
